Police are seeking assistance in locating a man believed to have witnessed an alleged sexual assault that occurred on New Year’s Day at Billboard Saturdays nightclub on Russell Street, East Melbourne. Authorities think this man may have aided a female victim who collapsed within the venue. To aid in identifying him, police have released images showing a tall Caucasian male with short hair, styled to one side and no facial hair. He was dressed in a long-sleeved button-up shirt, trousers, and sneakers at the time of the incident.
Anyone who has information regarding this witness or the incident is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or reach out anonymously online.
In a related development, a different individual has already been arrested concerning the alleged sexual assault at the nightclub as well as another incident on nearby Corrs Lane. This 22-year-old French national was intercepted by police at Sydney International Airport on January 4 and subsequently extradited to Melbourne the following evening. He faces charges for six offences, including two counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 22 at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
Authorities continue their inquiries as they work to bring justice for the victim and ensure safety in the community.
