A disturbing incident on the Gold Coast has been captured on video, showing 22-year-old Natalie Alice Shaw hanging onto the bonnet of a moving car during a road rage confrontation. The situation unfolded in July as Shaw attempted to enter a car park. She claims that another woman was driving against the flow of traffic and obstructing her entry.
Footage from security cameras reveals Shaw’s red vehicle moving through a drive-thru, where she was confronted by the opposing driver, who attempted to open Shaw’s door. In a video recorded by Shaw, she recounts how the woman stood directly in front of her car, challenging her by asking if she intended to hit her. Shaw stated her intention to move forward regardless of the woman’s presence.
In a dramatic turn, the unnamed woman leapt onto the bonnet as Shaw drove out of the parking area and onto Olsen Avenue, a busy road with a speed limit of 60 km/h. Shaw described her desperate attempts to dislodge the woman, swerving the car while the woman clung onto the windscreen wipers, demanding that Shaw slow down. Eventually, the woman lost her grip and fell off the side of the vehicle.
Following the incident, Shaw was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. During court proceedings, Magistrate Sarah Thompson remarked that in her 25 years of experience, she had never witnessed such bizarre behaviour. She noted that while Shaw’s actions placed both her and the other woman’s safety at risk, the erratic behaviour of the complainant was equally alarming.
As a result of the incident, Shaw received a six-month driving disqualification. This unfortunate episode has raised concerns over her aspirations as a para-athlete, potentially threatening her dreams of participating in the 2028 LA Paralympics.
