Two municipal leaders from northern Israel have voiced strong opposition to a proposed ceasefire with Lebanon, claiming it would jeopardise local communities. Moshe Davidovich, who leads the Mateh Asher Regional Council, expressed concerns that while agreements may be secured in Washington, the consequences are felt locally in terms of lives lost, homes destroyed, and communities fractured. He cautioned that a ceasefire lacking rigorous enforcement against Hezbollah and without establishing a buffer zone extending to the Litani River, situated around 30 kilometres north of the Israeli border, would simply set the stage for future violence.

Eitan Davidi, the head of Margaliot moshav, has labelled the ceasefire initiative as tantamount to “surrender” and a “political defeat.” He highlighted to the N12 news platform that the decision was made without consulting the residents of northern Israel and runs contrary to the stated objective of dismantling Hezbollah’s military capabilities.
