Tragedy struck outside a prominent comic convention in Melbourne, where one person lost their life and another is in critical condition following a car incident involving a grey Toyota. The vehicle reportedly veered off Langs Road and mounted the kerb, colliding with two pedestrians shortly after 5pm.
The identity of the deceased individual remains unknown, having died at the scene of the incident. The second pedestrian suffered severe injuries and was promptly taken to hospital for treatment.
In the aftermath, Victoria Police arrested a man in connection with the event and are in the process of conducting interviews regarding the incident. The convention, which hosted thousands, was the Supanova Comic Con, adding to the scale and chaos of the situation.
Witnesses recounted seeing the car driving “at speed” towards the crowd, leading to a scene described as chaotic. As investigations continue, a major crime scene has been established with additional support from the State Emergency Service (SES).
