In a distressing incident in Ingleburn, Western Sydney, two volunteers from the Community Helping Campbelltown Cats charity were violently attacked while tending to a colony of stray cats. One volunteer was left unconscious with significant head injuries after the assault, which occurred late Friday night.

The charity reported that the attack began when a man approached the colony manager who was feeding the cats, leading to an escalating confrontation. Two male colleagues intervened to protect her, resulting in a brutal assault by the unknown assailant. The police were alerted around 11:30 pm after the incident, but the attacker fled before their arrival.

The charity expressed its devastation over the incident, indicating that such assaults pose significant challenges in their efforts to care for unowned cats, especially given the limited resources and support currently available. They highlighted the ongoing struggle in addressing the needs of these animals.

Authorities have described the assailant as a tall man in his thirties, approximately 185 to 190 cm, with brown hair and a beard. He was last seen driving a gold Nissan Patrol with NSW registration DI21XU. Following the attack, the two victims were treated at Campbelltown Hospital.

The police are requesting any dashcam or CCTV footage from the area to aid in their investigation. Meanwhile, the charity continues to seek funding to assist in their mission to rescue cats off the streets.
