Australian Disney+ subscribers will soon face a second price increase in under 15 months, starting with a jump in standard monthly subscriptions from $15.99 to $17.99, reflecting an increase of more than 12%. This change will apply to new customers immediately and to existing customers at their next billing cycle. For annual subscribers, prices will climb by $20, from $159.99 to $179.99.
Premium monthly plans will also see a significant uplift, rising from $20.99 to $24.99, while the annual premium subscription will increase by $30 to $249.99. This marks the second time in about 14 months that price adjustments have affected Australian users, with the premium tier previously raised to accommodate new ESPN and Hulu offerings.
The announcement comes alongside the introduction of a new Standard with Ads plan, which is priced at $9.99, aimed at offering a more budget-friendly option for consumers. Notably, those currently enrolled in promotional offers will be exempt from these price hikes.
According to research by the Australian Communications and Media Authority, nearly all Australian adults (91%) utilised an online service to access video content within a given week last year, with more than two-thirds holding a paid streaming subscription. Among these, 31% were Disney+ subscribers, a slight decrease from 34% the previous year.
For context, competitors’ pricing includes Netflix’s standard monthly plan at $20.99, Paramount Plus at $12.99, and Binge at $19, while Apple TV costs $15.99 a month, and Stan is priced at $17 for its standard plan. Disney+ continues to vie for market presence alongside Stan, which is owned by Nine, the publisher of this report.
