Singer D4vd, whose real name is David Burke, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following the discovery of a dismembered body believed to belong to 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The body was found in his abandoned Tesla in Hollywood in September, just after what would have been her 15th birthday. Hernandez had been reported missing by her family in 2024 when she was 13.

The charges against Burke include not only murder but also lewd acts with a minor and mutilation of a body. The prosecution notes that certain circumstances surrounding the crime—such as lying in wait and financial motivation—could potentially lead to the death penalty, although it remains unclear if they will pursue this option.

Burke’s legal team has firmly declared his innocence, asserting that evidence will demonstrate he is not responsible for Hernandez’s death. They stated that they are prepared to vigorously defend him following his arrest on Thursday.

The investigation revealed that the victim’s remains were discovered in a Tesla registered to Burke’s family in Texas, and the car had been towed after being left in a seemingly abandoned state. Investigators found gruesome evidence inside, including a bag that contained a noticeably decaying severed head and torso, as well as other dismembered parts.

While the cause of death has not been disclosed, authorities obtained a court order to keep autopsy details from being released. The family of Hernandez has maintained a low profile amid the developments and has not made public comments regarding the case.

D4vd, a Houston-born artist, gained fame for his alt-pop music, particularly after going viral on TikTok with his track “Romantic Homicide”. He signed with notable labels Darkroom and Interscope Records and released two EPs, “Petals to Thorns” and “The Lost Petals”, both in 2023.

As the investigation progressed, Burke faced scrutiny, leading to him cancelling the remaining shows of his North American tour and a planned European tour after allegations against him surfaced in the media. His situation has undoubtedly cast a shadow over his promising musical career.
