At approximately 7.45 pm, a group of around 12 individuals seated outside a business at Eaton Mall became the target of a gang of masked assailants. The offenders, who were wearing balaclavas, approached the group, during which at least two of them brandished machetes and assaulted an 18-year-old man from Malvern East. Fortunately, the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Another victim, a 16-year-old boy, was also involved in the incident but fortunately emerged without physical injuries. After the attack, the assailants fled the scene on foot, and as of now, no arrests have been made.

While the police have yet to identify those responsible for the attack, they suspect that it may have been a targeted altercation involving individuals who were known to one another. In response to the incident, law enforcement officials have announced plans to increase patrols in the area to enhance public safety.
