Jeff Fenech has expressed uncertainty about his attendance at Tim Tszyu’s upcoming fight against Dennis Nurja in Wollongong this Sunday. However, he confirmed that he has been in frequent communication with Tszyu as he prepares to face the undefeated Albanian fighter. Recently, pound-for-pound sensation Terence Crawford visited Tszyu’s training camp, expressing his support but indicating he favours Errol Spence over Tszyu should they later meet in the ring.

Fenech’s involvement in Tszyu’s training has been understated; he has not attended recent sessions or spoken with Tszyu’s coach Pedro Diaz, which contrasts with expectations following his inclusion in Tszyu’s team last year. Despite this, Fenech remains optimistic about Tszyu’s progress under Diaz, who has trained numerous champions and Olympians.

He stated that his primary goal is to support Tszyu emotionally rather than interfere with Diaz’s coaching approach. Fenech hopes to be present at the fight as a fan, intending to cheer on Tszyu and offer encouragement before and after the match. He has been staying in touch with Tszyu, focusing on his overall well-being rather than any specific technical changes.

Fenech believes that Tszyu’s connection with Diaz will improve over time, likening it to how sports teams gradually build cohesion. He anticipates that Tszyu will perform better in this match than in previous outings, hinting that the dynamic between a fighter and coach can take time to solidify.

Tszyu is under pressure to secure a victory against Nurja to position himself for a lucrative bout against Spence, estimated at around $15 million, later in the year. Despite having faced setbacks in his recent fights, including three losses, Fenech reassures that staying focused on the task at hand is crucial. He acknowledges the challenges Tszyu has faced but is confident in his potential to rebound.

Fenech’s strategy involves focusing solely on the upcoming fight and steering clear of distractions regarding future match-ups. He encourages Tszyu to block out external noise and concentrate on performing at his best against Nurja, emphasising that success in this fight is vital before contemplating any further challenges.

Overall, his support remains steadfast, underscoring the importance of mental and emotional well-being in a fighter’s preparation and performance, especially at such a critical juncture in Tszyu’s career.
