In an unexpected highlight of the AFL season, Prince Harry was spotted engaging with Western Bulldogs players Adam Treloar, Matt Kennedy, and Tom Liberatore at Whitten Oval on Wednesday. The Duke of Sussex’s visit was part of a Movember initiative aimed at promoting awareness of men’s mental health.
During the event, Prince Harry kicked a football alongside the players while The Wiggles entertained in the background, creating an unusual and lively atmosphere for a mid-week training session. Kennedy, who was seen wearing a Bulldogs scarf, intended to present it to the prince but missed his opportunity and felt too anxious to follow up.
Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge expressed his disappointment about not being able to meet the prince, sharing his admiration for both him and his brother due to their military service. Beveridge praised the three players who had the privilege of meeting Harry, indicating that their status as fathers was a key reason for their selection, as the event’s theme resonated with their experiences.
Beveridge noted, “It was a special privilege for those three players,” and reflected on the significance of the occasion, describing it as a unique opportunity that added a touch of celebrity to their routine. He remarked on the aura Harry still carries, despite not being a royalist himself, highlighting the difference his presence made.
Meanwhile, Liberatore is set to return from injury as the team gears up to face Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Friday.
