The Canberra Raiders delivered a stunning upset against the Brisbane Broncos, winning 32-22 at home on Saturday night. Their victory was amplified when Raiders players celebrated vocally by singing their team song during the Broncos’ press conference, adding to the Broncos’ embarrassment.

Coach Michael Maguire and captain Adam Reynolds attempted to address the media amidst the celebrations, with Maguire reflecting on the game, acknowledging that his team was slow to respond to the Raiders’ strong start. He emphasised the need to learn from this experience and work together as a unit moving forward.

Despite being heavy favourites, the Broncos had a lacklustre performance following a commanding win over the Roosters the previous week. The Raiders, however, showcased their potential as serious contenders, scoring six tries including two by debutant Matty Nicholson.

Raiders legend Mal Meninga praised his team’s performance while offering a reality check to Brisbane, stating they appeared overconfident, having expected an easy win. The Broncos, who were previously the talk of the NRL, struggled to replicate their earlier form, with veteran playmakers Ben Hunt and Reynolds failing to make significant contributions.

Titans halfback Kieran Foran reassured fans that it was too early in the season for panic, noting the Broncos had performed well the previous week. He pointed out key areas for improvement for the Broncos, including reducing their 65% completion rate and limiting errors.

As the teams prepare for round three, Brisbane will host North Queensland while the Raiders face off against Manly, with both teams looking to bounce back from their respective challenges.
