Today, the Sydney Morning Herald celebrates 195 years of its journey in journalism, reflecting on a remarkable history enriched by impactful visuals. To commemorate this milestone, the publication has curated a selection of 15 notable photographs that have graced its pages over the nearly two centuries.
These images were thoughtfully chosen by Kate Geraghty, the Herald’s chief photographer. Recognised with a Walkley Award for her exceptional work, Geraghty also holds the distinction of being the first female photographer from the Herald to report from the front lines of armed conflict.
In her view, these selected photographs represent some of the most significant moments captured by the publication throughout its rich history.
