Renny Palmer found herself at the centre of a deadly love triangle involving her husband, Jason Palmer, and his rival, Gofal Baziad, according to testimony presented to a jury at the NSW Supreme Court. Baziad is accused of murdering Jason Palmer, allegedly out of jealousy, just days after the two men were seen together at Renny’s home in Sydney’s south-west.
On the day after Jason disappeared on February 6, 2004, Baziad attempted to reassure Renny over the phone, suggesting that her husband might have gone out and stayed with friends due to drinking. However, Baziad’s conduct raised suspicions. The following day, he was late to pick her up for work and they decided to return home after both expressed feeling unwell.
During the trial, Renny testified about her complex relationship with the two men. Despite having rekindled her connection with Jason in December 2003 after initially separating in 2002 due to his infidelity, Baziad still regarded himself as her boyfriend. She recounted their interactions, including a visit to Jason’s apartment with Baziad, where the chaos inside suggested no one had been living there.
Renny expressed ambivalence during her testimony, stating that she still loved Jason while Baziad likened her relationship with him to shattered glass—implying it could not truly be repaired. Following the alleged murder, Baziad hinted he was relocating due to a real estate issue, which the jury heard may have been an attempt to distance himself from the circumstances surrounding Jason’s disappearance.
Tragically, Jason Palmer’s body was discovered 23 days later, concealed in a sleeping bag and weighed down with rocks in the Nepean River, prompting further scrutiny into Baziad’s actions. With a plea of not guilty, he claims his motivations were misunderstood. The ongoing trial reveals the complexities of love, jealousy, and the devastating effects these emotions can have.
