Wesfarmers has announced a promotion offering free delivery to all Australians, including a complimentary six-month trial of their OnePass membership, which is typically charged at $4 monthly or $40 annually. Normally, delivery fees at Wesfarmers’ brands, such as Bunnings, Kmart, and Officeworks, range from $9 to $12 for standard parcels, but this initiative waives those fees to encourage online shopping amidst rising petrol prices.
Customers can enjoy this free delivery on eligible items without a minimum spend until September. Existing OnePass members will also receive a $20 discount on their membership renewal. The move aims to counteract the financial strain on households due to high fuel costs and to stimulate online purchases rather than in-store visits.
Wesfarmers Managing Director Michael Schneider highlighted that the objective is to alleviate the financial burden on Australians, noting, “We know that every dollar counts right now.” This initiative follows a notable decline in consumer spending and share prices, as Wesfarmers has faced challenges from rising interest rates affecting home renovation expenditures. Share prices have dropped from a four-month peak of $89.26 to $75.36 recently, indicative of the broader economic pressures.
The campaign also features a new advertisement titled “Every little bit helps,” encouraging Australians to use less fuel by reducing car usage and opting for public transport when possible. Additionally, while the initial announcement suggested free delivery on all items, clarification indicates that it applies only to specific eligible products.
This offer is valid for those who register for OnePass until May 14 and signifies Wesfarmers’ strategy to remain competitive by adapting to changing consumer behaviours and economic conditions.
