Recently, seven-year-old Joshua had the unique opportunity to meet Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. He happily recounted his experience, stating, “Mummy likes it,” and expressing excitement over receiving a handshake from Meghan, though he lamented missing out on seeing Prince Harry.
During their visit, the couple took time to engage with young patients, offering hugs and capturing heartfelt moments through photos. Meghan had a special interaction with a young patient named Enora, which her father described as a delightful encounter that brought joy to Enora during her hospital stay. He appreciated Meghan’s friendly demeanour, highlighting the significance of her visit as they prepared for Enora’s return home.
Another patient, who has faced numerous heart surgeries, shared how meeting the Sussexes made his long medical journey worthwhile. He described their warmth and enthusiasm, noting that their sincerity brought a smile to his face.
The couple spent approximately ten minutes visiting the foyer before seeing more patients in a private manner. The Royal Children’s Hospital, established in 1963 and opened by Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, has a rich history of royal visits, including those by King Charles III and the late Princess Diana during their tour of Australia in 1985.
Joshua’s mother expressed pride in her son’s interaction, reflecting on the importance of such moments for children in challenging circumstances. The Sussexes’ presence at the hospital served to uplift spirits and create lasting memories for the young patients. Following their Melbourne visit, Harry and Meghan are set to continue their tour, heading to Canberra and Sydney.
