A Melbourne woman, aged 37, has been charged with offensive and disorderly behaviour that jeopardised safety aboard an international flight. The incident occurred on a flight originally heading from Melbourne to Thailand on a Sunday.

Reports indicate that the woman’s behaviour became increasingly erratic during the flight, escalating to verbal abuse towards both passengers and cabin crew members. This prompted the flight to divert to Perth, where Australian Federal Police (AFP) were waiting to intervene. Authorities boarded the aircraft after the woman refused to comply with requests to disembark.

AFP Acting Superintendent Peter Brindal condemned her actions, emphasising that aggressive behaviour on flights poses a serious threat to the safety of the aircraft and its occupants. He stated that the AFP collaborates closely with airlines to ensure the protection of staff and the public during air travel.

If convicted, the woman could face a hefty fine of up to $16,500. Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 11.
