A Melbourne woman, 37, has been charged with offensive behaviour after causing an international Jetstar flight to make an unscheduled diversion to Perth. The flight, en route from Melbourne to Thailand, encountered disruptions when the woman allegedly began to act erratically and verbally abused both passengers and crew members.
The incident escalated, prompting the plane to divert to Perth Airport. Upon arrival, Australian Federal Police (AFP) boarded the aircraft and removed the woman after she refused to comply with instructions to disembark. Acting Superintendent Peter Brindal of the AFP condemned her conduct, highlighting that any aggressive behaviour on a flight poses significant safety risks for both the crew and passengers.
The woman faces a charge for her actions, which endangered the safety of the flight, and could face fines up to $16,500 if convicted. Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 11. The AFP emphasised their commitment to working closely with the airline industry to maintain safety for all individuals in and around airport environments and on flights.
