Two individuals, including a 16-year-old boy, have been charged following a firebombing incident at Almina restaurant in Docklands. The incident occurred around 3:30 am, when the suspects allegedly broke through the restaurant’s glass doors, poured an accelerant inside, and ignited it before fleeing.

While the restaurant sustained only minor damage, the entrance remains boarded up. The duo reportedly attempted to enter a stolen vehicle but were interrupted by patrolling police, prompting them to escape on foot. They were later discovered hiding beneath the Bolte Bridge in Ron Barassi Snr Park. Alongside them, a third man was apprehended in a nearby car, where police found jerry cans.

The 16-year-old from Glen Eira and a 22-year-old man face several charges, including criminal damage by fire, reckless endangerment, and burglary. The boy is scheduled to appear in a children’s court, while the older man will present at the Melbourne Magistrates Court.

Meanwhile, the third individual, aged 19, was released as authorities continue their investigation. Police are now examining possible connections between this incident and a series of recent attacks targeting hospitality venues throughout Melbourne. The motive remains uncertain; however, law enforcement suspects that an organised crime syndicate may be orchestrating these events, utilising encrypted communication to recruit individuals for these acts, sometimes involving younger participants.

As investigations unfold, the community remains alert and concerned about the safety of local businesses amidst this rising trend of violence.
