An alleged conspiracy to murder a prominent crime figure in Sydney has been interrupted, leading to the arrest of five individuals. NSW Police took these suspects into custody on a Friday after executing search warrants in areas including Leppington, Spring Farm, Lurnea, and Long Bay.

The charges against them revolve around several assassination plots aimed at a high-ranking figure within organised crime. Detectives assert that one incident from September last year revealed the intention to kill 29-year-old Ayman Tamer. During that incident, police pursued a BMW with cloned licence plates that ultimately failed to stop. In a bid to evade capture, a firearm was reportedly discarded from the vehicle, and the car was later found abandoned in Revesby.

The police allege the BMW had been sent on a mission to assassinate Tamer, who is described as an independent operator not strictly aligned with any particular crime group. This independence complicates police efforts to trace the real masterminds behind the attempted hits. Detective Superintendent Jason Box confirmed that Tamer is a target for organised crime.

Among those arrested include Chris Emmanuel Faigafa, 26, Osman Sabsabi, 21, and Robin Faumuina, who are facing charges for conspiring to commit murder. Notably, Faumuina was proposed to be the shooter but reportedly overslept on the scheduled day of the attack. The youngest individual apprehended is only 17 years old.

The overarching investigation highlights the ongoing battle between law enforcement and organised crime in Sydney, as police continue to track and thwart such violent plots in the city.
