Several beaches south of Sydney are currently closed following the unfortunate stranding of a deceased whale, which has raised concerns about potential shark activity in the area. The whale was discovered washed up on rocks at Era, located within Sydney’s Royal National Park. As a precautionary measure, beachgoers were advised to avoid the water, particularly on Anzac Day.

All nearby beaches, including Garie, Wattamolla, Era, and Burning Palms, have been closed to ensure public safety. Surf Life Saving NSW has issued warnings for residents and visitors to steer clear of the water due to the associated risks.

The specific species of the whale has yet to be identified. Lifesavers are actively monitoring the situation; some are utilising drones for aerial surveillance and jet skis for on-water patrols. Volunteer surf lifesavers are present at monitored locations such as Garie, Era, and Burning Palms to assist in keeping the public safe.

As the situation develops, it would be prudent for individuals to stay informed and follow the guidance of local authorities.
