Ricky Stuart, coach of the Canberra Raiders, has shared insights regarding his discussions with halfback Jamal Fogarty as speculation around the player’s contract heats up. Recently, Fogarty has been linked with a potential move to the Manly Sea Eagles, particularly as they seek a successor for the departing Daly Cherry-Evans from 2026 onwards. Although Fogarty has an option to remain at Canberra for next season, he has not yet signed an extension.

Stuart indicated that the Raiders’ management plans to engage with Fogarty’s representatives in the coming weeks. However, he acknowledged that Manly may present a more lucrative offer, which could complicate matters. “I spoke to Jamal this week, and we’ve mostly focused on our game preparation rather than media speculation,” he relayed to Fox League.

In his conversation with Fogarty, Stuart expressed support for the player’s ambitions, stating, “If you have a significant offer that benefits your family, you should consider it, but I want you to stay at our club.” He also mentioned he isn’t overly concerned about the negotiations at this stage, as his primary focus remains on achieving success in their upcoming matches.

Canberra faced a setback shortly after Stuart’s comments, losing to North Queensland, who secured their first win of the season. Additionally, rugby league legend Andrew Johns has publicly backed Manly’s approach for Fogarty, noting that he could command a salary nearing $1 million annually if he enters the free agency market. However, the Sea Eagles have yet to publicly confirm any interest in acquiring the playmaker.
