Dr Reza Adib, a well-known surgeon and partner of former Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, has been charged with multiple serious offences, including three counts of rape, two counts of deprivation of liberty, and one count of sexual assault. The allegations involve an incident that reportedly occurred on March 30, 2023, involving a woman in her 30s at a residence on Goodwin Terrace in Burleigh Heads, located on the Gold Coast.
On Thursday afternoon, police conducted a search at Adib’s beachside unit, evidencing their investigation by carrying away bags filled with collected materials. Following the procedure, Adib presented himself at Southport Police Station, where he was charged with the offences. He was released on police bail shortly after the charges were laid. When leaving the station with his legal counsel, he chose not to respond to questions posed by the awaiting media.
Dr Adib is scheduled to appear in Southport Magistrates’ Court on May 14. Currently, he is known for his work as a bariatric surgeon at the Brisbane Obesity Clinic.
Authorities have clarified that Annastacia Palaszczuk is not implicated in the allegations and no suggestions of wrongdoing concerning her have surfaced. The couple has been together since 2021, but the ongoing legal matters have notably raised concerns and made headlines in Queensland.
