Rugby league’s recent trip to Las Vegas was largely viewed as a success, although not all participants left satisfied following the day of games on Sunday (AEDT). The thrilling final match featuring the formidable Penrith and Cronulla teams was a highlight, but the preceding three games were reportedly one-sided and lacklustre.

Corey Parker, a Broncos legend, expressed his disappointment with the women’s Test match and Super League matches during a radio interview the day after the event. He commented on the opening game between Wigan and Warrington that ended in a staggering score of 42-0, and highlighted the women’s match, where the Raiders faced off against the Warriors, resulting in a shocking 90-4 scoreline. While Parker supports the growth of women’s rugby league, he suggested improvements are necessary to enhance competitiveness.

Allegiant Stadium saw over 45,000 fans attending the quadruple-header, and there are plans for more games in the future. However, ARLC chairman Peter V’landys noted that the current structure might need adjustments, suggesting that four games may be excessive. In his remarks to the media, V’landys mentioned the possibility of reducing the number of games to three for 2026 to maintain fan engagement, as many in attendance appeared to leave their seats throughout the day.

Despite the critiques, the event created a unique atmosphere, which both V’landys and Parker acknowledged as a positive outcome. As the NRL looks ahead, they are yet to announce which teams will participate in next year’s season opener, with several clubs eager to represent rugby league in Las Vegas.

This opener will aim to capture the vibrant energy experienced previously while also striving for more competitive and engaging matches, ensuring fans leave satisfied with the day’s entertainment.
