A childcare worker has been released on bail after being arrested for allegedly slapping two young children at a Sydney daycare. The incidents took place during nap time at the Panania Montessori Academy, where Jayendra Shahi is accused of striking the children’s faces.
During a court hearing today, it was revealed that the incidents were captured on CCTV. Following the reported assaults, a concerned parent informed the authorities. In response, the Montessori Academy took immediate action, suspending Shahi and alerting both the police and regulatory bodies. Subsequently, his employment was terminated.
The court highlighted the severity of the allegations against the 24-year-old, noting that the primary concern during the bail hearing was the safety of the children involved. As a result, Shahi has been prohibited from entering any childcare facility and must surrender his passport. The Nepalese national had been pursuing permanent residency in Australia before these allegations arose.
