Parramatta hooker Tallyn Da Silva is facing a spell on the sidelines after receiving a sin bin for an ill-timed tackle during the game against Manly at Brookvale Oval. The incident occurred in the 60th minute when Da Silva lifted Manly’s Jake Simpkin past the horizontal, prompting match caller Brenton Speed to note, “This tackle’s gone wrong, horribly wrong.”
Former NRL star Billy Slater commented on the tackle, suggesting that Da Silva’s poor timing and the momentum shift contributed to the mishap. He stated that lifting at the wrong moment can lead to such occurrences, expressing that the tackle’s execution was poorly timed.
After Da Silva’s sin binning, where Manly was already leading 23-6, Andrew Johns weighed in, deeming the decision by referee Peter Gough appropriate, although he emphasised that it was not a send-off situation. Shortly thereafter, Manly winger Jason Saab scored, extending their lead.
Despite being a man down, Parramatta’s Mitchell Moses managed to score a try for the Eels. However, the Sea Eagles swiftly retaliated with another try from Clayton Faulalo once the teams were back to even strength. Ultimately, Eels prop Charlie Guymer added a late try following a clever assist from Da Silva, but the final score was 33-18 in favour of Manly. The second half saw Manly seize control of the game after a tightly contested opening half, with Jamal Fogarty’s field goal ensuring a narrow 7-6 lead at half-time.
The match review committee has a packed agenda following this encounter, with three players reported for various infractions. Aside from Da Silva, Moses may also face a fine for a high tackle, while Manly’s Haumole Olakau’atu was reported twice for similar offences. Parramatta’s Dylan Walker and Corey Waddell also left the field due to injuries, leaving the Eels with nine players currently sidelined.
Looking ahead, Parramatta will face the Warriors next Saturday, while Manly is set to take on Penrith that Sunday.
