In a poignant farewell, respected journalist and presenter Georgie Gardner concluded her final news bulletin with an emotional message. Reflecting on her decision to resign, she expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support and kind messages from viewers, stating, “Such kindness, encouragement and goodwill feel particularly precious during these turbulent times.”

Gardner conveyed her appreciation for the past 25 years of her career, remarking, “I’m blown away” as she watched a montage highlighting her journey at Nine News. While humourously lamenting her past hairstyles, she acknowledged the joy and privilege of delivering the news and the complexities of the ever-evolving news cycle.

In her heartfelt goodbye, she underscored her commitment to accuracy and sincerity, recognising the responsibility that comes with being a trusted voice in viewers’ homes. “I never take for granted the duty to be human, sincere, and respectful,” she remarked, further thanking her audience for their trust over the years.

Gardner began her journalism career in 1992 with a cadetship at Radio 2NX in Newcastle, later moving to Sydney to present news at 2Day FM. Her tenure with Nine commenced in July 2002, where she started as a weather presenter and eventually became a prominent anchor for the 6pm weekend bulletin. She also made notable contributions as a newsreader and fill-in host on the Today Show between 2007 and 2014, and again between 2018 and 2020.

As she signed off for the final time, she said, “Thank you for being with us, enjoying your evening, goodnight,” leaving a lasting impact on viewers who will certainly miss her presence in the news. With a career spanning nearly three decades, Gardner’s legacy as a trusted journalist and beloved presenter at Nine remains firmly etched in the hearts of many.
