In a disturbing case of road rage, Clinton Shawn McKenna has been sentenced to three years and nine months in prison following a violent incident in a car park in Perth’s northern suburbs. The altercation arose over a parking dispute when McKenna deliberately reversed his Kia sedan into 55-year-old Mark Adams. The attack, which occurred in June 2022, left Adams severely injured, with a fractured spine and significant scalp lacerations.

After the incident, McKenna fled the scene, leaving Adams bleeding and in considerable pain. The aftermath of this violent encounter has had lasting impacts on Adams’ life; he continues to struggle with the trauma of the event nearly three years later. In a statement outside court, he shared how he frequently relives the incident in his dreams, often finding himself haunted by the sight of the Kia logo.

Adams was described as being “completely exposed and vulnerable” at the time of the attack, as he was bent over trying to protect his dog. Fortunately, the dog survived the ordeal. However, the experience has altered Adams’ social interactions, making him feel disconnected and wary around others. Once a sociable individual, he now describes himself as appearing strange to those around him.

At his sentencing, the court addressed McKenna’s domestic situation, highlighting that he is a married father of two young children. The judge acknowledged McKenna’s struggles with PTSD, arising from the ramifications of his actions and his distress over being away from his family. While the court condemned the altercation as “childish” and deemed McKenna’s decision to leave the scene as “selfish,” it reflected on the chilling nature of the event and the stark reality of its consequences.

Adams, who is actively seeking help to manage the psychological impact of the incident, expressed a desire for healing and resolution in his life. McKenna could potentially be eligible for parole in under two years, raising concerns in light of the severe injuries inflicted upon Adams and the emotional toll it continues to take on him.
