In a tragic incident in Perth’s northern suburbs, a dog was killed and its owner sustained serious injuries during a dog attack in Dianella. The attack occurred early in the morning while the owner was out walking with her pet, and CCTV footage captured the distressing event.
The attack involved two larger dogs that were roaming freely before they assaulted the woman and her dog on Sycamore Rise. As the woman desperately tried to save her pet, she was left screaming for help. A neighbour intervened, using a stick to separate the dogs and help the owner manage the situation. Unfortunately, despite her efforts, the small dog could not be saved, and the owner was left with significant arm injuries.
Witnesses reported that the aggressive dogs had been seen off-leash in the vicinity about an hour prior to the attack. Following the incident, concerned neighbours contained the dogs in a yard until council rangers arrived to impound them.
Mayor of the City of Stirling, Mark Irwin, described the footage from the attack as among the most distressing he has witnessed in his role. He pointed out that the dogs were evidently not under control, raising questions about how they ended up in such a situation.
The local area has approximately 25,000 registered dogs, and attacks like this are managed on a weekly basis. In light of this incident, there is an urgent reminder to pet owners about the importance of keeping their dogs controlled, especially if they know their pets may exhibit aggressive behaviour.
The community is mourning the loss of the beloved pet while also grappling with concerns about dog safety and responsibility among owners in the area.
