A magnitude 4.5 earthquake occurred near Orange, New South Wales, at approximately 8:20 PM, according to Geoscience Australia. The tremor originated at a depth of five kilometres, and weak to moderate shaking was felt in areas as distant as Sydney and Wollongong.

Following the event, more than 1,000 individuals reported experiencing the tremors within the first half-hour. Among those affected was a dog trainer from Mudgee, about 100 kilometres northeast of the epicentre, who noted her dog’s unusual behaviour during the quake. She shared on Facebook that her pet reacted by getting up and looking anxiously at the floor, indicating it sensed something unsettling, even though the humans present did not feel the quake at all.

The tremor’s impact has sparked conversations online, with residents sharing their experiences and reactions. This earthquake serves as a reminder of the geological activity that can occur in Australia’s regions, even those not commonly associated with seismic events.
