In a dramatic legal case, Renny Palmer has found herself at the centre of a deadly love triangle involving her husband, Jason Palmer, and Gofal Baziad, a man with whom she had a relationship. The NSW Supreme Court jury heard that two days after allegedly murdering Mr Palmer, Baziad attempted to soothe Renny over the phone, believing she was his girlfriend.

Ms Palmer testified that when Baziad called her, he speculated that Jason had spent the night intoxicated at a friend’s place. Mr Palmer went missing on 6 February 2004, and prior to his disappearance, he had been seen conversing with Baziad at Ms Palmer’s home before they left together. Baziad is currently pleading not guilty, claiming he acted out of jealousy.

The court also learned that Baziad was late picking up Ms Palmer for work the day following Jason’s disappearance. Feeling unwell, she requested to turn back, which they did after he also claimed to be sick. Later that day, Baziad took her to dance practice at the Indonesian consulate, where she attempted unsuccessfully to connect with her ex-husband.

After two days of uncertainty, Ms Palmer accompanied Baziad to Mr Palmer’s apartment, where she noted a dishevelled state, indicating it had not been occupied. Despite having reconciled with her ex-husband in late 2003, Baziad still regarded himself as her partner. Ms Palmer shared that although her relationship with Jason had been tumultuous, she still had feelings for him, having separated in 2002 due to his infidelity before reconciling.

Baziad’s possessiveness came to light during the proceedings, where he compared Ms Palmer’s ties to Mr Palmer as fragile as glass; he expressed that even if repaired, the relationship would remain broken. Furthermore, he claimed he needed to vacate his unit just after Jason vanished, citing issues with the real estate, raising suspicions among those involved.

Tragically, Jason Palmer’s body was discovered 23 days later, concealed in a sleeping bag and weighted down with rocks in the Nepean River, leading to the serious nature of the allegations against Baziad. As the case unfolds, its implications on those involved continue to deepen, revealing a complex web of love, jealousy, and tragedy amidst the legal proceedings.
