Shane Warne’s son, Jackson, recently expressed his belief that the COVID-19 vaccination may have played a role in the sudden death of his father, the legendary Australian cricketer, in 2022. Warne passed away from a heart attack linked to atherosclerosis while on holiday in Thailand, at the age of 52. An autopsy concluded that his death was due to natural causes, and there is no medical evidence to support Jackson’s theory.

In a discussion on the podcast 2Worlds Collide, Jackson shared his thoughts on his father’s passing and the possibility that the COVID vaccination less than a year prior could have been a factor. He stated, “I definitely think that it was involved,” asserting that the vaccine may have exacerbated any underlying health issues Warne might have had.

Jackson further recounted his immediate reaction upon hearing the news of his father’s death, indicating his inclination to blame the government and the COVID situation. He remarked, “Even if Dad had underlying health issues, I think this brought it straight to the surface.”

The rollout of COVID-19 vaccines in Australia has seen approximately 65 million doses administered. According to a report from the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance, out of 160 reports of adverse outcomes associated with COVID vaccines, only one death was found likely linked to vaccination. It is well documented that clinical trials have shown the vaccines to be effective in preventing severe illness from COVID-19.

Following Warne’s death, a state memorial service was held in Victoria at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where Jackson delivered a heartfelt speech. He reflected on his feelings surrounding the government’s vaccine policies, noting he almost voiced his frustrations during the service. “I felt really uncomfortable,” he admitted. “I nearly said I blame the government and COVID but didn’t; it was probably smart I didn’t.”

Despite the challenges they faced, Jackson and his sisters, Summer and Brooke, have since initiated the Shane Warne Legacy Health Check, which aims to raise awareness about the risks of cardiovascular disease. Shane Warne, with a remarkable record of 708 Test wickets, is fondly remembered as one of Australia’s greatest cricketers.
