Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that Vice Admiral Mark Hammond, the current head of the Navy, will succeed Admiral David Johnston as the Chief of Defence Force (CDF) in July. Johnston, who has dedicated over 48 years of service to the Australian Defence Force (ADF), will be stepping down from his position.

In addition to this leadership change, Chief of Joint Capabilities Susan Coyle will take on the role of Chief of Army, further reshaping the leadership within the ADF. Vice Admiral Hammond expressed his enthusiasm for his upcoming responsibilities, acknowledging the demanding challenges that may lie ahead for the defence forces.

Both Hammond and Coyle are set to commence their new appointments next month, marking a significant transition at the top of Australia’s military leadership.
