On Tuesday night, Holli Bowmer visited her neighbour, Veronica Carmady, with her partner and two children to help finish a pool. As they were leaving, Holli’s daughter, Poppi, noticed smoke billowing from Veronica’s lounge room. Lucas, Holli’s partner, urgently shouted for them to escape. In the chaos, Holli managed to grab her two-year-old son Eli and attempted to escape through a window, while Poppi was thrown to safety by their friend Paula. Tragically, Veronica entered the burning house multiple times to rescue her six-year-old daughter, Aurora, but neither made it out. Meanwhile, Lucas, alongside neighbours, smashed a window to save Veronica’s two-year-old daughter, Brooklyn, who is now in a coma due to severe smoke inhalation. Lucas remains in critical condition in hospital. Floral tributes have been laid at the scene in memory of Veronica and Aurora. The house is a crime scene as authorities investigate the cause of the devastating fire. Brooklyn’s family is hopeful for her recovery, stating she is a “warrior” and may soon breathe on her own.
