Denise Ann Williams, a 62-year-old woman from Victoria, was last in contact with her family on April 15, informing them of her trip to Chéticamp, a maritime village on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. She was reported missing on April 28, prompting a comprehensive search operation involving ground and air support from multiple agencies.
Williams’ rental vehicle, a Nissan Sentra, was discovered parked at the Parks Canada Visitor Centre, near the Acadian Trail, a popular hiking destination in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. This location became the focal point of the subsequent search efforts, which included assistance from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), canine units, search-and-rescue teams, and Parks Canada personnel over a six-day period.
The search concluded on May 3, with local police announcing that no further initiatives were planned. Williams is described as standing 5’4″ tall, with greyish-blonde hair that reaches her shoulders. The last known attire she wore included a dark winter jacket, a powder blue beanie labelled “Antarctica,” an orange and blue scarf, and glasses.
The Acadian Trail, encompassing an 8.4-kilometre loop, is recognised for its moderately challenging terrain. Authorities have issued warnings regarding the presence of local wildlife, including moose, coyotes, and black bears, which are active during this time of year.
The RCMP has urged anyone who may have crossed paths with Williams in the national park to get in touch with local law enforcement.
