A tragic incident occurred this morning north of Brisbane, resulting in the death of a woman and the arrest of a man following a head-on collision involving a stolen vehicle. The accident took place shortly after 6 am on Archer Street near Victoria Lane in Woodford, Caboolture.
Emergency services responded to reports indicating that a white Isuzu D-max utility vehicle and an orange Toyota Corolla had collided. It was established that the Isuzu had been stolen from a residence on McLoughlin Road in Morayfield earlier that morning around 3.45 am.
The driver of the Toyota, a 60-year-old woman, sustained severe injuries and unfortunately succumbed to these injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, the 31-year-old man driving the stolen ute fled on foot. He was later located by police at a nearby school, resulting in a temporary lockdown at Woodford State School due to the situation.
A spokesperson for Queensland Education confirmed the school’s lockdown, explaining that it was initiated in response to a suspected intruder on the premises. Police conducted a thorough search of the school grounds, and the lockdown was lifted at 9.10 am following their clearance, allowing classes to resume.
The man has been taken into custody and is currently collaborating with law enforcement as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
