In a remarkable display of bravery, an Adelaide father, Scott Bradshaw, has been lauded as a hero after apprehending an alleged car thief and guiding police to a second suspect. The incident took place around 9.30 PM on Prominent Rise in Hillbank, where residents heard screeching tyres followed by a loud crash. Witnesses saw two individuals fleeing towards a nearby river.
Scott, a local tradesman, described how he shouted at the suspects, which seemed to stun them. “They kind of didn’t know what to do,” he recalled. One of the suspects complied with his demands while the other took off. Scott managed to hold the woman by the creek, maintaining a safe distance in case they were armed, and performed a citizen’s arrest until law enforcement arrived.
Local resident Joyce Teague expressed admiration for Scott’s actions, stating, “That’s really brave. I don’t think I could do something like that.” Thanks to his quick thinking, police arrested a 32-year-old woman from Mid North for illegally using a motor vehicle and driving while disqualified.
Surveillance footage later revealed a second suspect, a 40-year-old man, who fled through a paddock for over a kilometre before police apprehended him as well. Both individuals had been travelling in a Hyundai thought to be stolen from Salisbury Plain two weeks prior.
This courageous act highlights not only Scott’s willingness to intervene in a dangerous situation but also the importance of community vigilance in combating crime.
