A protest advocating for an end to mass immigration in Australia was held today on the lawns of Parliament in Canberra, attracting hundreds of supporters, many adorned with Australian flags. One Nation leader Pauline Hanson received a rousing welcome as she addressed the crowd, expressing her frustrations with the absence of politicians who should be present to engage in the debate. “Politicians, you might get a few of us down here, but where are the rest? Why aren’t they here?” she queried.

Concurrently, Opposition Leader Angus Taylor discussed immigration stats on the ABC program Insiders, noting that current migration levels have exceeded even those set by the Labor government. He indicated that while the Coalition would prefer migrants from liberal democracies, it would not categorically exclude individuals from other regions, citing the risks posed by potential bad actors from nations with less stable governance.

Matt Canavan, the leader of the Nationals, also took to the stage during the protest, asserting that individuals who do not embrace Australian values should face deportation. He firmly stated, “You don’t share our values? You’re getting deported. You’re going back overseas.”

The organisers of the rally announced plans for more events aimed at combating mass immigration over the coming months, indicating a sustained movement within parts of the Australian community. Meanwhile, the government continues to grapple with a smaller group of Australian citizens, primarily women and children, who are set to face domestic charges upon returning home. Minister Chris Bowen stated that the government would not provide any assistance to these individuals, while Health Minister Mark Butler warned that any returnees with criminal records would face legal repercussions at the borders.

As the protests and discussions surrounding immigration intensify, the government remains steadfast in its position, with officials reiterating their commitment to handling issues related to borders and criminal behaviours seriously.
