A mother in North-West Sydney has been charged with attempted murder after she and her three children were discovered with stab wounds early this morning. Emergency services responded to the incident at approximately 5:15 am, where they found a 10-year-old, a 13-year-old, a 16-year-old, and their 47-year-old mother, all injured.
The eldest child, who reportedly uses a wheelchair, sustained a single stab wound and several lacerations. Meanwhile, the mother had inflicted three stab wounds on herself, believed to be self-harm. Following treatment at the scene, all four individuals were transported to the hospital in stable condition.
By 9 pm, the mother had been charged with three counts of attempted murder following what authorities described as a domestic violence-related incident. She has been refused bail and is set to appear in Parramatta Local Court tomorrow.
Residents of the area expressed shock at the situation, describing the family as generally quiet and respectable. According to a neighbour, they were considered a “lovely, decent family” and the occurrence left the community unsettled.
Detective Superintendent Naomi Moore informed reporters that there were no recorded mental health issues related to the mother or any known history of domestic violence at their residence. She stated that the family home was not familiar to authorities, describing it as “relatively normal” and the events as unexpected.
It has been reported that the father was present in the home at the time of the incident. He allegedly secured the knife used in the stabbings and contacted the police after hearing screams, waking up to what he believed was a chaotic situation. The children were in their rooms during the alleged attack and are expected to recover fully.
At this stage, police do not believe any additional suspects are involved in the matter. Support services are available for those affected, with Lifeline and other counselling resources listed as options for anyone seeking help.
