An inspiring story has emerged from the new development site of the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital, where an 11-year-old cancer patient has received a special tribute. Henry Smart, who is currently undergoing treatment for leukemia, has been honoured through the creative efforts of his sister, Indi.

Indi participated in a competition hosted by the hospital school, which allowed her to name two cranes involved in constructing a multi-storey car park at the site. In a touching gesture, she decided to name one of the cranes “Henry” in recognition of her brother’s courage and impact on her life. Indi described him as a significant source of inspiration, reflecting on how his strength has profoundly influenced her.

The other crane was named “Mariah,” after a blend of Indi’s friends and favourite teachers, showcasing her appreciation for those who support her in life.

Henry himself expressed pride in his sister’s choice and shared insights into their bond, stating, “The way she has gone through the whole treatment thing and stayed as good as she has, it’s been unreal to see.” He acknowledged that Indi’s resilience throughout her treatment has not only been remarkable but has also been a source of support for the family during challenging times.

This heartfelt initiative highlights the power of sibling love and support amid adversity, encapsulating the spirit of hope that resonates at the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
