Shopify has shut down a website selling Kanye West’s T-shirts featuring swastikas, citing violations of commerce practices. A spokesperson stated that the merchant’s actions did not align with Shopify’s terms, leading to the store’s removal. The Yeezy website, supported by Shopify, was inaccessible as of Tuesday morning after social media backlash and a statement from the Anti-Defamation League, underscoring the historical significance and threat of the swastika emblem.
Despite a recent TV ad promoting his brand during the Super Bowl, which only aired in select markets, West has faced severe criticism. For several days, he posted antisemitic, homophobic, and misogynistic messages on his X account, prompting calls for action from various community organisations. Certain posts have been restricted due to violations of X’s hateful conduct policies.
Following the controversy, West’s representation at 33&West has also been terminated. The agent expressed that they could not support West’s recent harmful remarks. This incident reflects a continuing pattern, as West was previously dropped by CAA in 2022 due to earlier antisemitic comments, which led to numerous brands distancing themselves from him.
