Parramatta Eels centre Will Penisini has emerged victorious at the NRL judiciary after being found not guilty of a grade one careless high tackle. The incident, which took place during a match against the Gold Coast Titans, resulted in Penisini initially receiving an $1800 fine. However, he opted to appeal this decision, risking a heavier penalty of $2500 if found guilty.

The controversial tackle occurred in the 12th minute of the game, which ended in a disappointing loss for Parramatta. Penisini was judged to have made high contact with Titans player Beau Fermor, who was brought low by Mitch Moses just before the tackle. This sequence of events led to the penalty being called against Penisini.

Despite the scrutiny, there was a lack of significant reaction from commentators regarding the decision. Interestingly, Penisini was the only player charged from this match, even though Jayden Campbell of the Titans was placed on report for dangerous contact. Campbell’s incident, however, did not result in any fines.

In a broader context, the match review committee was active during round six, charging nine players for careless high tackles. Notably, Casey McLean and Patrick Carrigan received bans, while Trent Loiero faced the steepest fine of $3000 for multiple offences.

Ultimately, Penisini’s acquittal at the judiciary means he avoids further financial repercussions, allowing him to focus on his performance as the season progresses.
