A man has been charged with looting amid the flood crisis on New South Wales’ Mid North Coast. At approximately 3.45am, local police responded to reports of suspicious activity on Mortimer Street in Wingham. Officers allege they witnessed the man loading various items into the back of a hatchback.
Upon searching the vehicle, authorities reportedly found a collection of goods, including tools, paintings, family photographs, DVDs, a fish tank, a lamp, tyres, and other personal belongings. The 44-year-old was also alleged to have tested positive for methamphetamine during a roadside drug screening, leading to his arrest for possessing suspected stolen property and breaching bail conditions. He was subsequently held without bail and was scheduled to appear before court.
This incident comes as part of a broader crackdown on looting, with two additional individuals charged for similar offences in the flooded areas earlier this week. Police have announced they will increase patrols in regions affected by the floods as the waters begin to recede, aiming to deter further criminal activity during this challenging recovery period.
