Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, the fullback for the Warriors, has expressed an unusual aspiration as he prepares for the upcoming match in Las Vegas – he hopes for a successful leadership debut for his good friend and new Canberra captain, Joe Tapine. Nicoll-Klokstad cheerfully quipped, “I wish him well – just not too well,” reflecting both his camaraderie and competitive spirit.
Having spent six seasons with the Raiders and making a notable impact there, Nicoll-Klokstad is eager to be part of the event that is significant for Tapine. “I missed both games against the Raiders last year, so I’m looking forward to it. I still have many mates in Canberra, and it’ll be nice to catch up,” he stated.
Aware of the intensity that awaits them, Nicoll-Klokstad acknowledged the challenge posed by their opponents, recalling how coach Ricky Stuart will undoubtedly prepare the Raiders for the match. He is keenly aware that last season was disappointing for the team and feels a sense of accountability as they move forward.
Reflecting on the past year, he noted, “There was a real belief and resilience in the team in 2023 that seemed to be missing last season.” While he felt his individual performance was decent, he understands that success in footy is a collective effort.
Now with the start of a new season on the horizon, Nicoll-Klokstad is excited about the possibilities that lie ahead, particularly in Las Vegas. “This is the game I have been waiting for,” he concluded, highlighting his anticipation for what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
