Bob Hagan, a prominent figure in rugby league and a long-time member of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, has passed away at the age of 85 on the Sunshine Coast. The Bulldogs confirmed his death and extended heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
Hagan’s legacy is unique, as he is the only individual to have served the Bulldogs as a player, coach, and CEO. Originally from England, he joined the Bulldogs in 1967 and made his mark by playing 45 first-grade matches in the club’s iconic blue and white colours. His outstanding contributions included captaining the team and representing New South Wales.
After his playing career, Hagan transitioned to coaching, leading the Bulldogs during the 1971 and 1972 seasons. He later took on a significant role in Queensland rugby league, serving as the inaugural president of the Gold Coast club when it was established in 1988. Hagan returned to the Bulldogs in 1996, assuming the role of CEO, which he held for 11 years, further solidifying his impact on the club and its community.
Hagan holds a cherished place in the storied history of rugby league, particularly at Belmore, marking an illustrious journey that has left a lasting impression on the Bulldogs and rugby league in Australia.
