A woman has been apprehended following an incident involving an allegedly stolen vehicle in northern Adelaide. The 22-year-old driver, hailing from Elizabeth Grove, was hiding in a backyard when police located her after a pursuit that began around 8:15pm on Haydown Road in Elizabeth East.

Police attempted to stop a Volkswagen sedan, but the driver reportedly sped away, prompting authorities to deploy a helicopter to assist in tracking the vehicle. The chase saw the car driving recklessly, including instances of travelling on the incorrect side of the road and ignoring traffic signals.

The police eventually used spike strips to deflate the car’s tyres on Stanford Road in Salisbury Heights. Following this, the male passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot, while the female driver continued onto Featherstone Place, where she abandoned the car and also made a run for it.

Authorities coordinated a search for both individuals and successfully found the woman concealed in the backyard of a nearby residence. She was arrested and charged with multiple offences, including dangerous driving to evade police, driving without a valid licence, operating an unregistered vehicle, trespassing, and unlawful presence on private property. Following her arrest, she was granted bail and is set to appear at Elizabeth Magistrates Court on May 12. Additionally, her vehicle has been confiscated for a period of 28 days.

The male passenger, a 35-year-old from Renown Park, was also arrested. He faces charges including breach of bail and has outstanding warrants. Unlike the female driver, he was denied bail and will appear in court on the following Monday.
