Supermarkets in Queensland Resuming Operations, but Flooding Continues to Hinder Food Deliveries

Following recent floods in Queensland, several supermarkets have resumed operations but are implementing purchase limits on popular items. Woolworths announced that their Ingham location has reopened, with some truckloads of stock arriving at the Townsville distribution centre. However, the flooding remains severe, obstructing supply deliveries to many stores in North and Far North Queensland.

Major road closures, including a collapsed bridge and restrictions on the Bruce Highway, have hindered access for suppliers attempting to deliver food. Consequently, many shelves in Coles and Woolworths locations are noticeably sparse, particularly in meat and fresh produce sections. In Cairns, for instance, residents reported severe shortages, although some bananas remained available.

Woolworths stated that its teams are actively collaborating with suppliers and local authorities to ensure that deliveries continue where access is possible. They encourage customers to purchase only what they need to help maintain available supplies for the entire community. Currently, stores from Mackay northwards have introduced a two-pack limit on essential items such as toilet paper, rice, and bread as a precaution during this challenging time. As the situation evolves, Woolworths expects to enhance stock delivery to affected stores, particularly those located south of Townsville.
