During Combs’ federal sex trafficking trial, a friend and former stylist, Deonte Nash, testified that Combs pressured Cassie to engage in what he termed “freak-off” sex marathons instead of allowing her to celebrate her special day. Despite Cassie’s protests that she did not want to participate, Nash recounted how Combs berated her and made her feel compelled to comply.
Nash provided insight into Cassie’s experiences during their nearly 11-year relationship, revealing she confided to him about her discomfort with the drug-fueled hotel encounters, which often included Combs observing and filming her with male sex workers. Cassie testified to having been involved in numerous such encounters throughout her relationship with Combs.
Moreover, Nash corroborated Cassie’s claims of physical abuse, detailing an incident where Combs violently assaulted her at her apartment, resulting in a severe head injury. He explained that when he tried to intervene, Combs overpowered him and continued the assault on Cassie. Such testimony paints a dismal picture of Cassie’s life under Combs’ influence, characterised by both manipulation and fear.
In Combs’ ongoing trial, he faces serious charges related to a 20-year racketeering conspiracy that allegedly employed violence and intimidation to maintain control over Cassie and others. He has pleaded not guilty, with potential penalties ranging from 15 years to life imprisonment if convicted. Recently, Combs’ legal team requested a mistrial based on assertions that prosecutors hinted at his involvement in the firebombing of rapper Kid Cudi’s car, an act of intimidation stemming from a past relationship he had learned about. The judge rejected this motion and instructed jurors to disregard certain testimony regarding destroyed fingerprint evidence linked to the investigation.
