A shopping centre in Melbourne’s west was put on lockdown following a significant altercation involving students after school hours. The incident occurred at the Pacific Werribee Shopping Centre in Hoppers Crossing around 4:30 PM, leading to chaos as shoppers sought safety.
Witnesses reported seeing a frantic scene where over 50 young people surrounded a group of girls engaged in physical fights, throwing punches and kicks at one another. Eyewitness accounts indicated that shoppers, many who were out for last-minute Easter shopping, fled into nearby stores and took refuge in storerooms to escape the unfolding violence.
As the situation escalated, police intervened and resorted to using capsicum spray to disperse the crowd, prompting the involved students to scatter. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and there were no arrests made in connection to the brawl.
The shopping centre has since reopened, although a strong police presence remains to ensure the safety of patrons. This incident highlights rising concerns about youth violence in public spaces and the impact it has on community safety during peak shopping times.
