Three teenagers have been apprehended in relation to a series of break-and-enters in Brisbane’s northern suburbs. Dramatic footage captured by 9News showed one of the suspects being arrested inside a drain, during which he was bitten by a police dog and later taken to hospital. The group, aged 16 to 17, had been evading police following multiple residential burglaries in Paddington, Auchenflower, and Red Hill over the weekend.
On Sunday night, two vehicles were reportedly stolen from Annie Street in Paddington. A local resident, Elizabeth Burnett, recounted witnessing the suspects as they stole her Land Rover from her home. Police tracked the teenagers down while they were driving and deployed tyre spikes at Herston to bring the chase to a halt. While one boy was captured during this operation, two others managed to escape on foot, although they were later apprehended.
Queensland Police Minister Dan Purdie praised the police force for their quick response and bravery, highlighting the role of police dogs in apprehending suspects. Of the arrested teens, two face a total of 19 charges. The 16-year-old appeared in court recently, while the 17-year-old is due to face a magistrate on March 17.
