The Queensland government is set to deliberate on a proposal for a new 60,000-seat Olympic stadium at Brisbane’s Victoria Park, as revealed exclusively by 9News. Previously, an independent review panel suggested this location for the stadium, and the size of the structure has now been disclosed.

The state cabinet is expected to evaluate the proposal on Monday, with an announcement anticipated next week that will also introduce plans for an athletes’ village near the Brisbane showgrounds. The panel noted that due to time constraints, refurbishing the Gabba to host Olympic events would not be feasible.

However, this potential project could pose challenges for Premier David Crisafulli, who pledged during the election campaign to avoid building new stadiums under his administration. Additionally, the review panel dismissed Swimming Australia’s request to establish a National Aquatic Centre at Spring Hill. Instead, they advised that swimming events take place at the Brisbane Live Arena and a newly proposed venue next to the Gabba.

The Queensland government remains open to exploring all possible options regarding the development of Olympic facilities.
